Tony Coveny graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center, having served on the executive board of the Houston Law Review. During law school, Tony interned for United States Federal District Judge David Hittner in the Southern District of Texas.
Immediately after graduation, Tony clerked for the Honorable Richard Edelman and the Honorable William J. Boyce of the Texas Fourteenth Court of Appeals.
Tony is also a Professor of Political Science, having earned his Doctorate degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico and a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the Latin American Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has taught at such institutions as Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, and Saint Peter’s College. Most recently, he taught at Prairie View A & M University, and was co-founder of the Pre-Law Institute for Minority Students.
Tony has been a guest on National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition and Which Way LA?, as well as a number of local television and radio stations, providing commentary and analysis of political events as they unfold. He has published articles on political topics, and more recently, authored a number of law review articles, including articles on Constitutional Rights, Bankruptcy Reform, the United States Supreme Court, and Preemption.

Representative Cases
Vioxx, Fosamax, and Digitek Multi District Litigation – 2008-2011
Tony Coveny spent the first part of his legal career in Multi District Litigation. He processed the claims of nearly 400 plaintiffs in their injury claims against Merck & Co., regarding the drug Vioxx. He was also the attorney liaison for the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in charge of the Fosamax discovery repository, and worked on developing the factual and legal basis for Digitek litigation, including deposing corporate representatives. Tony has argued many plaintiff’s claims, and when necessary, appealed denials. Tony also represented the State of Oklahoma in its bid to recoup Medicaid monies spent on Vioxx before it was voluntarily recalled.
Bad Faith Insurance Claims following Hurricane Ike – 2009-2010
Tony, along with a team of attorneys, successfully represented Texas residents and organizations who suffered damage from hurricane Ike, whose claims were denied by their insurance carriers.
Immigration Law 2010-present
Tony, as a Spanish speaker, also does a great deal of pro bono work in the Hispanic community in Texas, processing applications for residency and citizenship and assisting individuals and churches in legal matters.
